20 years ago, I was seven... and 2016 is the 20th Anniversary of the Spice Girls. I guess looking back on it I got a little taste of Feminism before I did.
I am absolutely fascinated by the commercialization of Feminism in popular culture. Amidst the girl power anthems of today, I cannot not think of the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls gave 90s kids like me a palatable mainstream taste of third wave Feminism. These five girls were kick ass chicks, who provided an array of relatable depictions of strong women and above all held female relationships important. Whether it was truth or trend then with the Spice Girls or looking at contemporary popular culture with Beyonce, Miley, Margo, JenLaw ( I mean we got a lot of great women to look to), the conversation of Feminism is here. So 20 years later from seven year old me, the introduction of the Spice Girls, GIRL POWER makes a come back to empower a younger generation with @TheGlobalGoals campaign #WhatIReallyReallyWant Happy viewing, also you know you can't help but dance and sing along.
