A choose your own adventure chart about whether you should have sex on the first date via Everyday Feminism.  In the desperate need to consume popular culture news during the drought without my computer I consumed a lot of Access Hollywood. I know! Mind you, it is one of my guilty pleasures!! And an activity that my dad and I share, but for him it does not seem like such a guilty pleasure. But the episode last night had back to back little stories on makeup, no makeup, a general share all of celebrity women talking about the pressure put to maintain a certain level with their appearance.
In actuality it does not seem like much of a stretch now. But the Ryan Lochte scandal during the Rio Olympic games has conjured up many think pieces about his actions and how it consequently negatively affects the perception of Americans abroad. There are also many people talking about how race and gender play a role (a great comparison is Gabby Douglass) when it comes to the reactions to Lochte's actions. To complicate things further when talking about race in regards to Lochte, is that Lochte is part Cuban. So how does that work? When you are a person of color, yet you pass as white? What does passing as white mean? And if you are a person of color, do you benefit for passing as white? Everyday Feminist contributor and vlogger Marina Watanabe breaks it down for us!
