Friday the 13th, Beyonce releases a surprise album.
14 songs, and 17 videos. And more importantly, a response to the criticism she has been receiving for labeling herself a Feminist. Seeing countless ass kickin' women in the public eye completely avoid Feminism is evidence of the negativity associated with the label. Personally, Beyonce's exploration of the term has been incredibly enriching. It is both comforting as well as unnerving to know that young women today are still trying to figure out what Feminism means to them. Society is not stagnant, and labels will evolve with society. This visual album is confirmation of the fractures within Feminism, specifically academic Feminism versus home grown. Comments are closed.
