18 year old country music duo Maddie and Tae's first single, "Girl in a Country Song" could be a groundbreaking for young girls and country music. No more bring the boys pies, dancing in cut offs and just going along for the ride.
Overall, the duo has peaked my interest because of their packaging. Two blonde, 18 year old country songstress from Texas and Oklahoma, who so happen to share the same record label as Taylor Swift. Their music sweet, young and undeniably country. I think what is good is women within their genre of music addressing ideas of subversion and objectification. It feels that certain genres of music always come to mind when they talk about the objectification of women, but I feel popular music in general is melodically misogynistic and the biggest hits are a reflection of the rape culture. All together, thus far, kudos Maddie and Tae for being a voice for your peer group and unassumingly feminist. I will totally be watching this evolve and following the hype.
